- A 36-year-old male is in the waiting room and he is very anxious about his CT scan examination and results
- Take the patient to the x ray room to confirm their personal details and allow them to ask any questions
- Take the patient to the x ray tabal and demostrate what will be happening
- When I (the radiographer) call the patient from the waiting room and notice the patient is looking anxios. i need to remain calm and confirdent to show the patient they are in good care and everything is going to be alright.
- Proceed to take the CT scan
- Ask the patient for their personal details and because you are aware they are anxious explain the process to them to put them at ease. allow your patient to undress and change into the hospital gown and try to answer any of their questions to the best of your ability and if you are unable to answer ask another radiographer you think might know the answer.
- The examination is now complete
- Explain to the patient that he needs to lay extremely still on the x ray table while the examination is taking place and make him aware that is isn't painful its like taking a photo. Explain to him that the machine will make a noise and move but that its exremly normal. also make the patient aware you will not be standing next to him during the examination so he should not try to follow you.
- Send your patient back to the doctor or ask if they need a porter to take them back
- Make sure you are talking the patient through the examination and that the patient is aware of what is happening at all times.
- When the examination is complete , allow your patient to change back into his clothes.
- If the patient asks about the results of the examination explain the him that the doctor will be giving feedback and that you are unable too diagnose patients any further.
