  • Odysseus, you and your men will next come across The Sirens
  • The Plan
  • Odysseus, you "alone should listen to their song" (Homer 694). But you will need to protect yourself. Have them tie you up

  • Their Song
  • The goddess Circe warns the men of the hardships they might come across throughout their journey. The men are starting to prepare for the next danger they will encounter-The Sirens. The Sirens are beautiful women who draw men into their island-to kill them. 
  • Temptation
  • Circe tells Odysseus that he will be the only one to listen to The Sirens. The men will have to tie Odysseus up, so he doesn't try to advance toward The Sirens. The others will use wax to put a damper between the song of The Sirens and their ear.
  • Mission Accomplished
  • The Sirens begin their song, "This way, oh turn your bows..." (Homer 719). Their beautiful voices attract Odysseus' attention. On the nearby boat he desperately tries to join The Sirens, but luckily cannot.
  • "This way..." (Homer 719).
  • "...No lonely seafarer ..."(Homer 719).
  • "oh turn your bows..."(Homer 719).
  • Reaching out for The Sirens, Odysseus yells, "'Untie me'" (Homer 747)! Trying to ignore Odysseus' attempt's at escaping, the crew-mates keep rowing. Some of the crew-mates hold Odysseus down as he continued to struggle.
  • The sound of The Sirens grew faint as they disappeared "under the sea rim" (Homer 752). They had made it though yet another of their dangers at sea. And now needed to prepare for their next.
