- "So this is where gloom comes from"
- In the Southern Kingdom, they are know fro being boring and mean, they expect women and children too essentially be dolls for the men. Women cannot read books, they are only allowed to learn how to write, sew, sit and be the perfect bride to be. Brystal Evergreen is a girl who loves to read and is not particularly keen on the ways that the kingdom is run. She often reads illegally through books that her brother gives her, constantly looking for a way to make her life different more eventful, where she can do more and be more than just a doll.
- "If I should perish, I want you to take over the academy."
- Brystal is sent to a shoe factory to be disciplined and taught to be a proper lady, it is a cold, dark place where everyone is forced to endure hard labor minimal amounts of food and days without sleep, and if they misbehaved they were dunked in front of everyone. One day Brystal is sent to the dunker for disobeying the rules of the factory as well as summoning a hoard of birds to peck and destroy the lunch hall. This is when pearl white unicorns with vibrant pink manes, pulling a golden carriage barge into the courtyard, when they finally pull to a stop, out steps a fairy called Madame Weatherberry.
- "Is it true that all members of the magical community are born the same? And that being a fairy or a witch is just a preference?'
- Four women walked to the castle in which Brystal and her companions were staying at, before their daily magic lessons could begin, four women stepped through the fog surrounding the tree line. From afar they looked like regular women, that gave you can eerie, uncomfortable feeling that you could never seem to shake as long as they were around. As they walked closer, their features became less and less human, the first women had round yellow eyes and a pointed nose like beak, the second women had red eyes with thin pupils like a reptile's. The third women had oily skin, enormous lips, and bulging black eyes like a fish, the fourth women had green eyes like a cat's, her face was covered in whiskers and a sharp underbite that could be seen poking out of her bottom lip.
- Madame Weatherberry has been lying on why she is constantly going to the northern kingdom, she originally used the excuse that she was visiting a sick friend. This was part of the truth, being that she was visiting the Snow Queen, who is the cause of an icy disaster called the Northern Conflict, which started after she consumed by hate for those who have harmed her. Madame Weatherberry has been fighting her in order to stop further damage. Brystal discovers the truth of these events and goes to Madame Weatherberry in hopes to confirm her theory, this is when Madame Weatherberry tells Brystal that she will most likely not make it through her and the Snow Queens next encounter. She tells her that if she were to die, she wants Brystal to take over as headmistress.
- Brystal and her friends are chased from the In-Between, a dark forest infested with monsters that want to kill or capture them, as they ran from a hoard of angry trolls, they fell into a place called Greenhouse Canyon, where they meet a girl named Rosette and a Sorceress named Floraline. Floraline explains that Madame Weatherberry was lying to them all along, that no one is born with a certain type of magic, but they get to choose what they want to become. Brystal and her friends not believing Floraline, are taken to a the Tree of Truth were Brystal finds that they were lied to.
- At the end of the story we discover that Madame Weatherberry is the Snow Queen and she is the cause of the Northern Conflict. It is also discovered that the four mysterious women are the ones who forced Madame Weatherberry to continue her assault in the North. When arriving Brystal and her friends work together to defeat Madame Weatherberry and the four women, in this battle Brystal and the rest of the magical community gain favor and are now generally respected in society. Brystal and her group were named the Fairy Council and Brystal earning her own individual title of Fairy Godmother.
