- Flashbacks...
- Just as Lena is about to leave the illegal party, she meets Alex yet again. They both have a spark between each other the moment they met, and now that spark has burst into a bigger flame. Alex asks Lena if she has ever danced, he asks because in their dystopian society boys and girls are separated until they get the cure for 'love'.
- Since love is illegal in this society Lena's mother was seen as crazy because she had fallen in love and was not able to be cured. Due to being asked about dancing Lena remembered how her mother danced. And it gave her a flashback.

- Lena is reminded of one of her memories of her mother, they were at the beach and Lena was running towards her mother as a wave followed.
- Then Alex asks Lena if she wanted to dance, this is very riskful as Lena has not received the cure yet. And uncured girls and boys should not touch. But in Lena's eyes this was okay in the moment as Alex is cured, and that is allowed.
- This moment made a lot of things come into Lena's mind, whether if she was becoming like her mother, if she liked Alex, if this would harm her future, everything that she was told not to do was becoming a possibility.
