- Everyone was there. The black and the white. We all just loved that smooth jazz!!!
- Wait, i know this. All the dark people were separated from the light people right??
- There are many things I miss about those times and that is not one of them.
- Yeah, I'm sure glad I don't need to deal with that!!
- So anyways, why did your mother say no to going out with your friends?
- IDK grandma, i think she said I needed to clean my room.
- "A dark truth, but yes," grandma said, "back then we were seen as lesser. But we are not and never were." Segregation was sadly huge in the 1920's. But this was one of those huge cultural changes that happened during the decade. Blacks were seen as almost equal.
- Come on Maria, let's go clean it. Then I will tell your mother I let go. I am her mother after all LOL.
- Really!!! Oh Thank you Grandma!!!
- Throughout the rest of the conversation, Grandma tells Maria all about her life in the 1920's and all the good it brought to us now.
- Maria's room had been a mess for a whole week and still hasn't cleaned it. Her friends are going to leave in just an hour. Do you think she has time??
