- Before Mansa Musa became the emperor Abu Bakar was the emperor. Abu Bakar,who was also his predecessor, lead a fleet of ships out to the Atlantic ocean. After that he or the ships were never seen again.
- After that Mansa Musa became the emperor. With his reign he made a lot of wealth from gold and salt. This made him the richest man in the world. He had about $400bn
- Mansa Musa was a devoted Muslim and was focused on one of the five pillars of Islam which was Hajj. Hajj is a pilgrimage to Makkah to see the Ka'bah. Mansa Musa wanted to take his whole empire on this pilgrimage... So he did.
- He set off on the pilgrimage with 60,000 people, 21,000kg of gold, 100 elephants and 80 camels
