- Hello! I am SONNY the Dinosaur, and I am here to talk about the period that was wiped out before our existence: the PERMIAN PERIOD.
- My ancestors had mentioned that this big landmass that we live on called PANGAEA had displayed severe extremes of climate during the PERMIAN PERIOD.
- No wonder that the early reptiles back then had thicker and moisture-retaining skins, and evolved from being cold-blooded to warm-blooded animals.
- That reptile that I had mentioned are called THERAPSIDS.
- Their existence were superior during the PERMIAN PERIOD. They rapidly evolved to become pseudo-dinosaurs and are the roots of the MAMMALS today.
- One notable plant that flourished during the PERMIAN PERIOD are the GINKGO LEAVES.
- Ginkgo biloba leaves arose during the beginning of the mentioned period (approx. 280M yrs. ago) and are known as herbal medicines today.
- But as they said, every kingdom has its disastrous downfall.
- The PERMIAN EXTINCTION is the worst extinction event in history, as it wiped out 90% of marine species and 70% of land animals.
- My ancestors speculated that it might be caused by extreme volcanic eruptions, or by a major climate change. It might be an asteroid impact, too.
- But somehow, I am grateful for that extinction to happen.
- It caused a great evolution, giving birth to us dinosaurs.
