- King Louis XVI called the Meeting of the Estates General to find a solution to the financial crisis. Each Estate only had one vote each according to vote by order but the Third Estate did not find this fair because they always got outvoted even though they made up most of the population.
- The March of Versailles
- Since the First and Second Estate did not want the Third Estate to cause trouble they locked them out of their discussion room so the Third Estate found a tennis court and locked themselves in there. They renamed themselves the National Assembly and made a pledge that they would not leave until they had a constitution.

- Off with their heads!
- On July 14, 1789, there was a rumor that royal troops were going to take over the capital so more than 800 Parisians who had guns without gunpowder knew right where to get it. The prison known as the Bastille had the gunpowder they needed so they forced their way in and got the gunpowder. This was the start of a revolution.
- The Rise of Napoleon
- Yay Napoleon will ward all our enemies away
- Women from Paris charged all the way from Paris to Versailles for bread. The women then made the King come back to Paris with them and promise that he would stay so he was easily accessible to them.
- Why should you eat cake while we starve!
- We want bread!
- After the King tried to escape it was determined that he was a traitor so he was sentenced to death by guillotine. Once he was killed France became a republic and Maximillian Robespierre, who was followed by many because of his equality beliefs, he became in power. Robespierre killed anybody who was seen as against the revolution causing a Reign of Terror.
- This guy is kinda crazy
- After people began to realize that Robespierre was crazy they also took him to the guillotine. This started the rise of Napoleon. Napoleon was loved by many people because of his military success and the reforms he made after Robespierre was gone. Napoleon made public schools , built roads, allowed all citizens to vote and much more. Napoleon wanted to show he was in control so he took the Pope's crown and put it on himself and named himself emperor.
- I am the new emperor!
