- Equality and Liberty meet again in secrecy, and start discussing the name Equality gave Liberty.
- "The Golden One."
- "The Unconquered."
- Equality and Liberty start discussing the name Liberty gave Equality.
- "What name have you given us?"
- "But you think such thoughts as these and you wish us to think them.
- The Unconquered and The Golden One continue their discussion.
- "Such thoughts as these are forbidden, Golden One."
- "The day is hot, and you have worked for many hours and you must be weary."
- After some time, The Golden One brings up how tired The Unconquered must be from working.
- "No."
- "It is cooler in the fields, and there is water to drink. Are you thirsty?
- "We shall bring the water to you."
- The Golden One then offers The Unconquered a drink of water.
- "Yes, but we cannot cross the hedge."

- The Golden One returns from fetching the water and gives it to The Unconquered.
- "We shall bring the water to you."
