- Once a upon a time, there lived 2 giraffes...
- I'm Mort
- and I'm Marty
- Mort was always so jealous that Marty could reach the food on the taller trees.
- It isn't fair that you get the better leaves on the taller trees! There's so much more food up there!
- I get all the better leaves at the top of the tree and can grow so much stronger and bigger than you.
- Mort and Marty's home held many variations in sizes for giraffes. Some taller like Marty, and some shorter like Mort.
- Soon after all the leaves on the little trees were gone, only the big trees remained.
- There's no more food left for me!
- Mort, I think my fitness is just better for this environment since I can reach the higher trees.
- Suddenly, a man by the name of Charles Darwin appeared to help Mort and Marty!
- Hello Mort and Marty. I see that you have come across my idea of the Survival of the Fittest.
- Survival of the fittest?
- What's that?
- Both giraffes listened very closely as Charles Darwin began to tell them about his theory.
- Well, because Marty has a longer neck, he can reach the bigger trees and get the bigger leaves which means he has more food and can survive here longer.
- So this means that I can't eat as much food as Marty. What will happen to me?
- Ohhh. I was right! I can eat more leaves and live for longer here!
