  • Victor's father sends him a letter from Victor's hometown of Geneva. He tells Victor about everything that has happened since Victor has been gone. He doesn't want to dwell all of his pain on Victor because of Victors absence. He tells Victor that William has been murdered. "I wish to prepare you for the woeful news, but I know it is impossible..."(Shelley 55).
  • William and Ernest go to Plainpalais to play hide n seek. All is well until Ernest cannot seem to find William. Ernest waits for quite some time however, William never shows up. "William had run away to hide himself, and that he vainly sought for him, and afterwards waited for a long time, but that he did not return," (Shelley 78).
  • After waiting for a long time, Ernest finds out that William has been strangled and killed. Although, Ernest didn't know who murdered his brother, William. "About five in the morning I discovered my lovely boy, whom the night before I had seen blooming and active in health," (Shelley 78).
  • Elizabeth is very mournful for the loss of William. She thinks that she is the cause of his death and she is unable to cope with the murder of William. She later sends a letter to Victor to not be mad but to comfort the family. When Elizabeth saw the corpse of William she said, "O God,I have murdered my darling child," (Shelley 78).
  • While Victor is on his journey back to Geneva, he is followed by his creature. Victor has not seen his hometown in roughly six years. "A flash of lightning illuminated the object and discovered its shape plainly to me; its gigantic stature..." (Shelley 59).
  • As the chapter progresses, the whole town of Geneva was very sure that Justine Moritz had killed William because Justine had a picture of Williams Mother with her when William was murdered. Victor truly believes that Justine Moritz is innocent. "Dry your tears. If she is, as you believe, innocent, rely on the justice of our laws, and the activity with which I shall prevent the slightest shadow of partiality," (Shelley 63).
