THE THIEF STORY

Anil came home happy one day.
He had sold a book and showed Hari the money. That night, Anil hid the cash under his mattress to keep it safe.

Anil trusted Hari so much, it made stealing from him boring for Hari. There was no challenge, and Hari liked the feeling of outsmarting someone. He couldn't get that thrill if Anil wouldn't even notice the money was gone.

This story is about a young boy, Hari Sing who makes friends with Anil. Intrigued by Hari's enthusiasm, Anil Offers Him a Job

Anil, kind and trusting,
let Hari stay in his room above a sweet shop. Hari's attempt at cooking was a fail, but Anil offered to teach him instead. Anil planned to teach Hari to cook, read, write, and even do math!

A month into working for Anil, Hari realized he hadn't stolen anything except a daily rupee from the grocery money. Anil's trust surprised him – he'd never met someone so trusting.

Hari stole Anil's money and raced to catch the 10:
30 train to Lucknow. He even saw it starting to pull away from the station. But for some reason, he didn't jump on. He just stood there, unsure why he let the train leave.

Standing alone at the deserted station after missing the train, regret washed over Hari. He had nowhere to go, no friends, and the stolen money felt damp and heavy in his pocket. As the rain poured down, soaking him to the bone, a realization struck him. The money wouldn't last long. Learning to read and write, the very skills Anil offered, could lead to a much better life, one that paid more than this measly sum and didn't

involve stealing.

Regret gnawed at Hari. He snuck back to Anil's room, heart pounding, and slipped the stolen money back under the mattress. The next morning, he woke up late to find tea already made. Anil, with a knowing smile, handed him a crisp fifty-rupee note. "Regular pay from now on," he said. Hari's stomach lurched. The damp note in his hand was a dead giveaway. Anil knew. Yet, there was no anger, no accusation. Just a silent understanding.

You look a bit of a wrestler yourself,

So do you

If you can cook, then I can feed you.

Will you feed me?

I'd been working for Anil for a month. I cheated a little on the shopping errands, but otherwise hadn't stolen anything.

I'd seen all kinds of reactions when people got robbed.
Greedy guys panicked, rich ones got mad,and poor folks just seemed to accept it.

Anil wouldn't be angry about the money,
I knew. He'd just be sad, heartbroken that I'd broken his trust.
