- Once there was a farmer who lives alone in Sumatra. He went to fish in a river one day and caught a beautiful goldfish.
- The goldfish spoke, it spoke!! This caused the farmer to be so shocked that he became speechless and dropped the fish to the ground.
- Please don't eat me! I'll stay with you- I'll be your wife if you don't eat me!!
- I must be hallucinating right now...
- The goldfish turned into a beautiful woman. And promised to become his wife. The farmer only nodded as he was still shocked.
- Please do not be afraid. I'm also a human-- well I was cursed but you saved me! And for that I shall be your wife.
- I promise.
- So they became husband and wife. With the promise of the husband keeping the secret.
- However you must promise me that you will not tell ANYONE that I was a fish.
- They worked hard, farming and doing their duties. As time passed, they bore a child: a boy.
- Their child grew and became an obedient boy. They named him Toba and when Toba became a father he told his children the story of his parents. He always goes to the lake where his parents first met. They called the lake after him: The lake Toba
