- Jimmy was at school on a Friday, and they were learning a new vocabulary unit in his Spanish class.

- Positive transfer is when your previous memories and knowledge help you to learn new information. For Jimmy, thanks to speaking italian at home, Jimmy was able to use his previous knowledge about italian to help him understand how to speak spanish.
- Distributed practice is spreading out how you review material over the course of a longer period of time so that you can remember more. In order to remember as many words as he could for their in class quiz, Jimmy had been reviewing this vocabulary for the past week.

- The sympathetic nervous system is part of the autonomic nervous system and it is responsible for the fear or emergency response, by increasing heartbeat, blood pressure, and breathing rates. As Jimmy entered his science classroom, his sympathetic nervous system was activated because he was very nervous for his final exam.
- After Spanish class, his last period class of the day was science. In science they had their final exam of the year.
- Parasympathetic nervous system is part of the autonomic nervous system responsible for slowing body processes and calming someone down by reducing breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure. For Jimmy, his parasympathetic nervous system was activated while he was taking the test because he began to see that he knew the answers to all of the questions, so he calmed down.

- After school, Jimmy’s mom picked him up to go to the doctor because he was having trouble hearing the teacher in school.
- Sensory adaptation is the decreased responsiveness or de-sensitivity to a certain stimulus. The second Jimmy stepped into the doctor's office, there was a very unpleasant smell that he could not ignore. However, by the time he was seeing the doctor, he no longer noticed the smell.
- When the doctor came into Jimmy’s room, she diagnosed him with sensorineural hearing loss, which occurs when there is damage to the cochlea and the inner ear. So, the doctor explained Jimmy should get a cochlear implant.
