- Three greedy men decide to set off to find and kill Death.
- They stumble across someone's stash of money and decide that they want to steal it.
- One man is sent off to buy some things while the others guard the money and wait till nightfall.
- The 2 men guarding the money decide that they will kill the 3rd when they get back and split the money.
- The other man, on his way home from town, speaks to an alchemist about poison and gets some so he can poison the others and take all the money himself.
- All 3 men die upon the money because of their greed, obtaining nothing each, only the Death they sought for this whole time in the form of a poor old man.
