The wood frog's body has the ability to produce anti freeze. This is in order to keep itself alive during the winter months since it lives in a cold climate. Frogs aren't able to regulate their body temperature like humans can, Frogs are ectotherms meaning they get their temperature from the outside. Since wood frogs reside in Alaska and the Northeast. Their cold eight month winters are hard. So the wood frog stores large amounts of urine to store in their blood. As it begins to get colder the water in the frogs blood begins to freeze. it creates ice inside and extracts water out of the cells, then the liver produces glucose to prevent dehydration. That glucose mixed with the frogs urine and blood therefore creating anti freeze and revitalizing the frogs cells by not letting all the water to be drawn out. The grog enters a state of "suspended animation." essentially being dormant for months because 2/3rd of their body being frozen and their organs no longer being in motion. That is until it starts to get warmer and the frogs return to normal
The wood frog went throughout a development stage. It increased in size and mass, from a 37.5 mg tadpole, to a fully developed and bale to reproduce 8 gram frog. The is able to reproduce which shows the a definitive sign of growth. After it comes out of its comma it looks for food, a pee and most importantly a mate.
