Hello. My name is Mr. Cheggs. I am a wood frog and I live in the forest.
Cave
Winter is coming very soon and it's going to be extremely cold. I need to go eat lots of food in order to have the energy to survive through metabolism.
Veins
Oh No! I forgot it was November, I need to go start my survival process. I've been using this technique all of my life and it has been passed down to me through generations. My ancestors evolved to learn how to do it. And now I know to do it through my genetic code.
Spring
Since it's cold, I need to get in a place that will keep me a little warmer. This is my response to the stimulus of cold weather. Then I will produce a lot of urine. This is another reason why I needed food. But I will not release the urine. Instead, I will store it in my veins.
Now that it's really C-C-C-Cold, my cells are freezing. Now I use the urine that I produced earlier and mix it with glucose to make antifreeze. I let the antifreeze flow through my veins until eventually, I can survive until spring.
It's finally spring! Now I can exit my frozen state since it's warmer and I need to maintain homeostasis. and go back to the pond where I grew up as a tadpole. While I'm there, I see another wood frog. She will be my mate for the season and we can reproduce. Anyways, that's how I survive the cold.
