- In the book In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson. Shirley thought she was going to get whooped by her grandmother. So she got her cousin, precious coin to hang onto her leg in case she got whooped. But she didn’t get whooped at all. In fact she got a note from her father saying that they are to come to America.

- Shirley and her mother went on a boat to America. Her and her mother saw her father. They had to leave their family in China. That’s when the problems started happening. Shirley and her mother had to learn English and they don’t really know their traditions.
- Turning point
- When Shirley started school. But it was way different then in china. She didn’t know much English so she couldn’t really understand them. Shirley got bullied a lot to.
- Resolution
- Shirley got bullied by a lot of people. A boy that Shirley thought was her friend wasn’t. She was playing a game with them. Then when they started playing Shirley didn’t understand but they didn’t teach her. They just laughed at her. Also when they were playing a game. They were playing baseball and nobody taught Shirley how to play. So when they were screaming “ GO HOME, GO HOME!” Then the bully Mabel came and beat up Shirley. Nobody understands what Shirley has or gone through.
- Shirley has finally made a friend. Her name is Emily and she loves books. Shirley and Emily are really good friends and Emily is always there for Shirley. Emily is also a really good friend to Shirley. When they were electing class presidents. Emily said that Shirley should be class president. Emily got elected but she still let Shirley give the key to Jackie.
- Shirley finally got to meet her idol. She gave Jackie a key. She met Jackie Robinson. It’s a dream come true for her. Jackie has been there for Shirley. But also Shirley has been there for Jackie.Through his great losses and wins of games.
