Moses tended the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and arrived at Horeb, the mountain of God.
The angel of the Lord appeared to Moses in flames of fire from within a bush.
The bush is on fire, but why is it not burning up?
"Moses! Moses!"
"Here I am."
The Lord called out to Moses from within the bush.
"Do not come anycloser! Take off your sandals for the place you are standing is holy ground."
Moses listened to God's words and obeyed his commands.
"I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob."
Moses was afraid to look at God, so he hid his face.
“I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering."
The Lord was concerned for the Israelites who were enslaved by the Egyptians.
