- Moses tended the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and arrived at Horeb, the mountain of God.
- The angel of the Lord appeared to Moses in flames of fire from within a bush.
- The bush is on fire, but why is it not burning up?
- "Moses! Moses!"
- "Here I am."
- The Lord called out to Moses from within the bush.
- "Do not come anycloser! Take off your sandals for the place you are standing is holy ground."
- Moses listened to God's words and obeyed his commands.
- "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob."
- Moses was afraid to look at God, so he hid his face.

- “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering."
- The Lord was concerned for the Israelites who were enslaved by the Egyptians.
