- London became the financial center of the world, serving as a clearing-house for billions of dollars worth of world-wide investment
- Opium is an incredibly addictive substance, and soon after British Colonies introduced it China’s population saw a large spike in addiction. More and more Chinese merchants would buy Opium from the British, creating a reliance on British imports and an unhealthy Chinese population.
- The Chinese government took action by destroying British trade ships filled with Opium in their cities. This would go on to start the Opium Wars, which would last from 1839 to 1842. The Chinese would lose the Opium Wars, sadly, and in 1842 Great Britain would create the Treaty of Nanking. This gave them expanded commercial and trading rights with China, effectively making them the only country that they could trade with.
- The introduction of the railroad brought a fast method of transportation. However, this was not the main point of the railroad, as it was primarily used to get raw materials transported from Africa more effectively. British Colonialists also brought advanced methods of communication, like the telegraph, that improved the people's ability to communicate over long distances.
