- Rome is located in Italy, which includes a peninsula and islands in southern Europe. The Italian peninsula is shaped a like a boot and reaches into the Mediterranean Sea with the tip pointed toward the island of Sicily.
- The Etruscan Influence of Sports on the Romans
- The Romans had a myth about two twins and the founding of Rome. After their uncle had them thrown in the river, they were saved by a wolf and lived in the wild with many different families for a very long time. A while later they built a city on the Tiber River. They fought over what it would be called and eventually, Romulus killed his brother and the city was named Rome.
- The Greek Influence of Architecture on the Romans
- The way the Romans built was based off of the Etruscans. Two important Etruscan structures the Romans adapted were the arch and the cuniculus. A cuniculus was a long underground trench connected by shafts to the ground above. Arches rested on two pillars, which supported a half-circle of wedge-shaped stones. A keystone in the center held the other stones of the arch tightly in place. They used the cuniculus' for sewage uses, and the arches for higher public places.

- The Romans also adapted 2 very bloody sports. They were slave fighting and chariot races. During slave fighting, 2 slaves of a dead master would fight until one was dead. After being congratulated, the other would be executed. In chariot racing, drivers, were strapped to chariots. If a chariot overturned, they would be dragged under the chariot's wheels or trampled by the horses. These fierce competitions often resulted in injury or death.
- The Romans used the same building strategy as the Greeks. They also added columns to their temples like the Greeks. Eventually, the Romans learned to use concrete to build their temples.
- The Greek and Roman alphabet were very similar. They wrote in all capital letters. Like the Greeks, the Romans carved inscriptions in walls. The Romans also used the technique of Greek art. The also used the concept of putting detail on their sculptures. The influence of Greek art has been named "Greco-Roman." The Romans also used the Greek Gods as their religion, too. They just had different names and rituals, but mostly they were from other cultures like Greece.
