  • Congress passed a new law raising tariffs across the country
  • We as congress will raise tariff to encourage manufacture in the US
  • The south states were worried this was going to ruin their income
  • This is going to ruin us. bye bye farm.
  • I know no ones going to buy it because the prices are to high
  • Calhoun told the south states to say something
  • You guys should really speak up and fight of the farm
  • That is right I NEED TO FIGHT FOR MY FARM AND MY FELLOW FARMERS.
  • Congress raised tariff which would allow American manufactures to outsell foreign manufactures
  • Jackson lowered the tariff but, it still was not low enough for the south states
  • LOWER THE TARIFF MORE
  • Unlike the northern states who were happy about getting money for their factories. The southern states were worried that the higher tariff would hurt their sales to other countries.
  • They finally made an agreement and South Carolina was there to stay

  • Calhoun told the south states that they should declare tariff. They liked this idea and said if it was not lowered or taken away they would leave the US.
  • This was still not low enough for the south states and they kept threating to leave the US.
  • Jackson finally lowered it to a point where the south states were satisfied. After this the south states stopped making threats they were going to leave.
