  • With the help of Lev Kamenev and Matvei Muranov, Stalin ousted Vyacheslav Molotov and Alexander Shlyapnikov as editors of Pravda, the official Bolshevik newspaper, while Lenin and much of the Bolshevik leadership were still in exile. Stalin and the new editorial board took a position in favour of the Provisional Government and went to the extent of declining to publish Lenin's 'letters from afar' arguing for the provisional government to be overthrown.

  • Series of revolts begin in Petrograd. About 1,300 people are killed with clashes with police forces. 13 days later, on national women’s day, people, mostly women, protest against the lacking food and war. 7 days later, Nicholas abdicates, also removing his son.
  • 10 July 1918

  • A telegram sent to the Allied Powers by Foreign Minister Pavel Milyukov states the Provisional Government’s intention to continue the war. The note is leaked, resulting in protests and increased support for the Bolsheviks (founded by Lenin).
  • 21 January 1924
  • The Bolsheviks, with the help of Leon Trotsky as military leader, seize control of Petrograd. One day later the winter palace is also seized, which is the last hiding spot of the provisional government. In the same day, the Decrees on Land and peace are issued by the new Bolshevik government.
  • The first constitution of the Russian Socialist Federated Soviet Republic grants equal rights to men and women.
  • Vladimir Lenin dies, leading to a power struggle within the party. Josef Stalin emerges as party leader. Leon Trotsky is dismissed, exiled, and finally executed in 1940. After also dismissing two other people who supported Stalin, he is now finally the dictatorship of the Soviet Union.
