  • I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud BY WILLIAM WORDSWORTH
  • "I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
  • Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way,
  • The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
  • For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils.
  • The author in this poem convoys their loneliness and sadness through describing and seeing themselves as a cloud. The writer states how they wander through mountains lonely until they come upon a field of daffodils. He describes the never ending beauty of the daffodils in their heart. The author seems to think the daffodils are the most beautiful things he has ever seen. He states "The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:" with this line he states that the waves are beautiful but the daffodils are on another level of beauty. The creator of this poem states whenever vacant or bored they lay on their couch and think about these daffodils as they hold a special place in his heart. The point of this poem is to show how the daffodils saved the author from depression and that this is one of his most precious memories.
