- What is the professor talking about? What is agar? What is a petri dish?
- Sampson is currently in medical school. However, he struggles to understand the instruction and feels out of place from other students due to his lack of experience.
- He continued to have challenges in school and within himself. Because he felt out of a place, he had disappointing results. As he was spiraling downhill, he hit the worst spot when he got a letter for medical school.
- I failed the state board medical exam and almost passed by 3 points. We studied together, stayed up all night, and cramming for this one test that determines everything. However, on the day of the test, my brain was blank and shut down.
- Aw dog, I am so sorry. Don't worry, though, you will be all right. You get to take it again.
- Don't talk crazy. This is just a tempoary setback. You were close to the pass point and you get to take it again. I can relate to your struggles and all of us feel like this at one time or another. We're in this together.
- Yeah I know. Maybe this is a sign that I'm not meant to be a doctor. I don't know any doctors. I didn't grow up around doctors, and don't have any doctor friends. And it isn't as if the medical school is going to help a kid from the ghetto get it together. They can't relate to the struggles and hardships I've been through.
- Every morning, instead of going to the hospital with the other medical students, Sampson went to the medical library. He went over topics such as biology and microbiology and pushed himself to get a high score the next time he took the test. He also played basketball to clear his mind.
- I can do this. I can pass this test.
- I just need to study more and be confident. I am doctor and I can do anything.
- This test was a lot easier than I expected. All I need to do is wait for the official letter verifying that I passed it.
- When the time came to retake the exam, Sampson felt much more relaxed and confident. He knew the material and the answers came quickly. When it was over, he knew that he passed the test.
- When the official letter came to verify that Sam passed the test, he, George, and Rameck went out to celebrate.
- I knew you would ace the test Sampson.
- You got the right stuff. You are going to be a dynamite doctor.
- I needed this to happen. There was a reason for it, and I know sometimes you gotta fail in order to succeed. Anyways, we are going to be great doctors.
