Storyboard Tekst

  • Daisy and Jordan wearing white dresses
  • Gatsby's house and Daisy's Windows being white
  • Gatsby and Nick describing Daisy
  • When Nick comes to Tom's house for the first time, he sees Daisy and Jordan sitting on the couch and, "They were both in white" (Fitzgerald 8). White is a recurring motif that has more than one meaning. In this specific scene, their white dresses symbolize them having an empty personality and being very bland people.
  • Fitzgerald mentions that Gatsby's house is white as well as the windows on Daisy's house. When we are learning about the setting it says, "The windows were ajar and gleaming white" (Fitzgerald 13). This tells us that Gatsby and Daisy look innocent on the outside, but on the inside they are very corrupted people.
  • Gatsby and Nick are outside of Tom and Daisy's house waiting for them and Jordan to come outside. While they are waiting, they are talking about Daisy. She is described as being "high in a white palace the king's daughter, the golden girl... " (Fitzgerald 120). Her having old money allows her to have a high status life like how she is married to a successful man with a daughter. Saying she is "high in a white palace" represents how she is stuck in this high status life.
