Things are beginning to improve. The 17th Amendment passed, which means we get to vote for Senators. The Sherman Clayton Anti-Trust Acts allow there to be a limit on the power of business. Things have improved. The 16th Amendment makes taxes more equitable. The political changes of the recall, initiative, referendum, political primary and secret ballot, have given us as ay. But, there is no minimum wage or maximum hours and unions are not guaranteed.
We formed Settlement Houses and taught immigrants English, provided before and after school programs. Thank goodness Child Labor Laws were passed. But, there is still a lot to do.
