  • In terms ofKNOWLEDGE
  • When I fist arrived to class I was expecting to learn a lot about feminism and gender identity. I felt intrigued about the subject we were going to be addressing in class but also nervous about the discussions we would be having.
  • Having been a part of an LGBTQ+ club in highschool I knew a lot about sex, gender and identity so the first class was nothing new, however I was very interested to see how my classmates would see these issues. I liked the depth in which we reviewed the topics in the first class and looked forward to looking at many more gender issues with such depth and scope.
  • Objectives: learn a lot about important issues such as feminism, gender equality and other topics and communicate what I learn with those around me
  • I believe the general thematic of class to be understanding, respectfulness and learning about the issues that are going on all around us on a daily basis.
  • After taking some classes
  • I've changed in... many more ways that I wouldve expected. I hace always considered myself to be a feminist and part of the movement and thought I knew a lot about the movement but I realized that I only new the current information on the movement.
  • After about half-way through the course I learned about all the different types of feminist movements there are and the reason and purpose behind all of them. Before I believed that all feminists were behind the same exact movement, however, I now know that there are many different varieties from the movements.
  • "if the personal is political it must be international" (Cynthia Enloe), the feminist movement is not confined to one place or group of people it is a big and diverse movement
  • The new knowledge I acquired about the history of the feminist movement made me realize all the work that has been done by feminists for me to be here today. This has influenced me to be more greatfull of the movement and proud to consider myself a part of it.
  • "Se te permite testificar en tu propia defensa, agradécelo a una feminista. Posees propiedad que es únicamente tuya, agradécelo a una feminista
  • Puedes votar, agradécelo a una feminista" (Nuria Varela, Cansadas)
  • I as a student aware of the gender perspective, social issues and the need to preserve human rights have a duty to stand up for the rights and equality for all. As well as share in the Information I have learned in class.
  • The biggest challenge I see for the future I believe has to do with human rights. Everyday I we loose a part of our humanity and for this reason I believe that we will begin to set aside human rights. We have become a society so hungry for money and power that we are willing to do anything to get it. For this reason Human trafficking is one of the biggest and most lucrative businesses. The challenge facing our future is getting our humanity back and setting our priorities back to better things that dont only involve money
  • In terms of Prejudices and Stereotypes
  • I had an Idea that class was going to be mainly focused on the feminist movement, its origin, history and evolution into modern day. I arrived to class with stereotypes about men especially in relation to my classmates, I feared that there would be sexist or homophobic comments.
  • The Idea I had when I entered the class in regards to feminism was that it is a crucial and important movement that looks for equality between genders and an improvement for womens situation. I also believe feminism to be the movement that demands justice for all the injustices women experience.
  • Since coming into class I was well aware that sadly in our society women and men do not have the same opportunities. I was also aware that we live in a world where the patriarchy is norm and where we as women are fighting to unravel it in order to create and equal world for all.
  • My prejudice in regards to my male classmates changes as class progressed because I learned that many were really progressive and actually considered themselves feminist allies. The Idea I had about feminism expanded and I created a wider perspective of what the movement entails and its importance. My views on machismo remained the same however I learned that it is a disease that also affects men and society as a whole.
  • The thing that changed most in me with class was the blindfull bliss I was living in. I was aware of the human trafficking issue around the world but I did not know its extent. I also did not know the many ways in which human rights are violated right next to us. I am now more aware of these issues and am actually researching what I can do to help.
  • After being a part of this course I now refuse to stay silent at the sight or talk of injustice of sexism. In my closest spaces like my family and friends is where I can have the most impact, and for that reason, I believe are the spaces where I should be more vocal about my feminist stance and what I learned about in class. The world we live in is screaming for change and we have a duty of making that change happen. I wish to transform the spaces I live in by speaking to those around me about what I learned in class in hopes of teaching them and engaging in constructive conversations so as to lead them towards an understanding of the social issues around us and the importance of addressing them.
