- This is Bassanio, Portia's third suitor. He is not rich like the rest of her suitors but Portia is unaware of that. Bassanio borrowed money from his good friend in order to come and see Portia. Bassanio chooses correctly and gets engaged to Portia.

- This ring represents our love. When you wear this ring you are bound to me, to our marriage. If you take this ring off then you do not truly love me. If you take it off you are not honoring our marriage.

- Portia hands Bassanio the ring and tells him that he has chosen correctly. Portia and Bassanio then go on to get married.

- Portia and Bassanio are now married and since they got married her lady in waiting, Nerissa can now get married to the man she loves. The man she loves is Gratiano who is Bassanio's good friend.
