- Katie is who I will be describing. Throughout the story Katie has had one hero and that Lynn. Katie is a sweet little girl who will go out of her way to help her family. Although since they have moved form Iowa to Georgia it has been a different story. Katie started first grade and was very excited but when she got there all the other kids where asking if she is either Japanese or Chinese. Katie has a lot of passion but when it comes to these things she will just watch and not answer

- Uncle Katsuhisa's . Is very loud and a ambitious person. He was playing chess with Lynn having high hopes in winning although Lynn won every time. Uncle was the one who brought them to Georgia, he got a job for Lynn and Katie's parents after they lost there job in Iowa. On the way to Georgia Lynn and Katie rode in the front with Uncle,He was teaching them how to spit. He always gives mom a headache and is very loud compared to there dad.
- No running up the stairs!
- Dad is a very calm man. Throughout the story the author has compared him to a calm sea. The dad and his brother the uncle are very different. While the uncle is loud the dad just sits and listens. The dad is very nice towards there family and is very close to there mom. The mom however hates the uncle but the dad can tell when she is worried or something is getting on her nerves and dad is there to help her.
- Lynn is very kind. His has always taken care of her sister and been her best friend. But recently Lynn has been growing apart from Katie. She met a girl named Amber and they are now best friends and do everything together. Amber and Lynn wanted to go on a camping trip just cause the boys they liked were there but Katie and Lynn used to love to go camping without anyone,just them. Lynn has slowly been moving away of Katie
- The mom is a very kind person but she is also very strict when it comes to certain things. She does not like Lynn and Katie running around and running up the stairs or climbing trees, But sometimes she gets frustrated and needs to sit down. There dad always comforts her and he tells the kids to behave and calm down.
