- Grendel lives in darkness and evil. When he hears the music and happiness coming from the mead hall, he becomes infuriated, because he can't share that kind of happiness. He attacks the mead hall that night, leaving 30 dead soldiers that morning

- Back in Geatland, Beowulf heard of the great monster Grendel and the terror it was causing in Herot. He decided then that he would sail over to Herot to help kill the beast to pay back the debt to Hrothgar for his father, and took a few of his fellow geats for support.

- Grendel appears again at the mead hall, ready to kill whoever he saw. This time, however, Beowulf is there to stop him. Beowulf fights the hateful monster bare-handed, to prove how strong he is and gain glory from the fight. In the end, He rips Grendel's arm off and the beast runs away.

- After Grendel flees, Hrothgar tells Beowulf of the location of where the monster and its mother live. He explains how it's under the lake in a cave, and how horrible it is. He asks Beowulf to go there and kill both Grendel and his mother for a reward.

- Beowulf goes to the lake, leaving his companions to wait for him on the shore. He goes into battle with Grendel's mother and finishes Grendel. In the end, he kills the mother with an enchanted sword, which melts upon contact, and decapitates Grendel. He later takes the jilt of the sword and Grendel's head to the surface as trophies of the battle.

- After Beowulf becomes king and grows old, he decides to challenge the dragon guarding a tower full of wealth. He goes on this mission with a team of his soldiers, but they all abandon him as soon as he appears to be losing the fight. The only one who stayed by his side was his cousin, Wiglaf. Together they defeated the dragon, right before Beowulf died.
