- The narrator stalks Sheila Mant and is obsessing over her. The narrator has been watching her for sometime and finds out her mood based on the way she it laying down. He tries to impress her with his diving skills but it doesn't seem to work. He gets the courage to go ask her to go to the concert and she said that she will go.
- The narrator prepares his canoe for Sheila but out of habit he put his fishing rod in there. He was very nervous and got in the canoe early and started to fish. He picked up Sheila and saw how beautiful she was. He tries to talk to her but she is focused on herself and Eric Caswell. The narrator hooks a bass and it was the biggest bass he has ever hooked, but Sheila doesn't like fishing.
- The narrator decides to choose Sheila over the bass and he cut the line. They get to the fair and dance a few times before Sheila said that she would be going home with Eric Caswell and his Corvette. The narrator realizes that she was just using him and that he should have never changed for this girl. He never made this mistake ever again.
