- "As I swallowed my ration of soup, I turned that act into a symbol of rebellion, of protest against Him. And I nibbled on my crust of bread. Deep inside me, I felt a great void opening." (Wiesel 69) This shows man vs self because when he mentions void it could mean without God he is starting to feel empty. Elie could also be talking about how he is starting t regret his decisions.

- "For the first time, I felt anger rising within me. Why should I sanctify His name? The Almighty, the eternal and terrible Master of the Universe, chose to be silent. What was there to thank Him for?" (Wiesel 33) This shows Man vs God because Elie is questioning God's existence. Later on in the story Elie begans to question God more and more.

- "An icy wind was blowing violently. But we marched without faltering." (Wiesel 85) This shows Man vs Nature because that is what it literally is. Elie was marching through the cold and extreme weather.
- " "Blessed be God's name... " Thousands of lips repeated the benediction, bent over liketrees in a storm. Blessed be God's name? Why, but why would I bless Him? Every fiber in me rebelled." (Wiesel 67) This represents Man vs Society because as the other inmates praise God Elie does not. Throughout the book you can see how his character has changed from faithful to questioning God.
