- After encountering a ship in the North Pole, a dying Victor Frankenstein is saved by Captain Robert Walton. Victor tells his story and how he ended up like this.
- Victor tells that after showing an interest in science throughout his childhood. But what drew his attention most was life and death of the human anatomy. At the age of seventeen, Victor leaves his family in Geneva to attend the university at Ingolstadt.
- Victor reveals his knowledge and his ability to create life. He used body parts from the deceased and assembled a "creature" who came to life. The creature appeared to look just as normal human would.
- Victor valued his new companion and taught him the ways of humans, such as how to eat and speak.
- Until one day, Victor realized his creation was becoming more hideous and monster-like. He was scared of what he had created and the creature was outrageous with its appearance.
- Victor fled from school, planning to return home to Geneva and left the monster to fend for himself.
