- Meet Debrah, a 58 year old woman living in the suburb of Brooklyn, New York. She's witnessing her suburb being gentrified and she can't do anything about it.
- There's so many new shops and houses these days...I can't afford anything now
- What will happen if my apartment gets renovated?
- Gentrification often affects those currently living in area, as through the process, housing commonly becomes more expensive as cost of living increases. Many people get evicted because of not being able to pay higher rent.
- When the area is gentrified it becomes newer and more attractive. Wealthier neighbourhoods attract business chains to replace displaced businesses. PROPOSTEROUS!!
- The minority or the lower class people are usually the specific group of people who often get suppressed. Their voices are often unheard as higher income people are those who start gentrification, leaving these people out.
- Now these old buildings have been knocked down and replaced by luxury houses...Do they even care about us? Not everyone has a high income.
- Crime rates significantly decrease as people with wealthier incomes move into the neighbourhoods due to gentrification, high-income residents do not have the need to commit crimes to get by.
- I don't think there are any advantages of gentrification...
