  • Each food will represent one element.
  • miss. Kranky, you should make me a lisanga
  • bec im a cat and i dont know how
  • why cant you just make it you self?
  • its sort of like making an ionic compound
  • each element is its own ingredient to make the lisanga
  • we can model this in a lewis dot structure of food.
  • elements react with each other to make an octet. forming an octet will not affect the properties of the atom, electrons only changes the charge. protons affect properties of atoms.
  • Can you explain how Ionic compounds can help me make a lasagna.
  • So you start with the tomato that makes the base of the lasagna just like the base of an ionic compound.
  • All the other ingredients combine with the tomato to make a happy lasagna just like the elements combine together to make happy compounds.
  • If a atom gains a electron, it forms a negative charge!
  • whats a valence electron?
  • the tomato wants 4 more, so it will share with others tha also want to bond. this cheese has 7 valance electrons. that means it only wants one electron from the tomato.
  • Then you add cheese into the equation. if we think tomatoes as having 4 valence electrons-

  • valence electrons are the number of electrons in the outer most shell, and these electrons are happy with 8.
  • So then you add the bread in and he shares one valence electron with the tomato so heś happy.
  • Thatś correct Garfield. Now we just need to add the egg and we can make a lasagna.

  • As a atom bonds with other atoms, the potential energy of that atom decreases.
  • This is not what the lisonga lewis structure actually looks like!
  • so this is what lisonga looks like under a microscope?
  • the last ingredient is the egg. eggs have 6 valence electrons so it can form a double bond with the tomato. this bond is stronger then the other bonds since they both share 2 electrons.

  • Exactly

  • So this is the completed lasagna or ionic compound.
  • Not really, Garfield its technically a nonpolar covalent bond.
  • Garfield loves lasagna!
