  • This is what the lake used to look like.
  • And this is what it looks like now. 500,000 people were left without water due to Algae Blooms in Lake Erie.
  • Algae Blooms are harmful gross green sludge in the water you would want to be drinking and swimming in. They are caused by runoff pollution and pesticides in agriculture.
  • When we interviewed O’Brien from the water plant near Lake Erie he stated, ‘‘We have much more work to do. We have to keep making these investments in restoration if we want to make the lakes fully, truly drinkable, fishable and swimmable’’
  • However, Pesticides are having a significant impact on Lake Erie. These harmful chemicals are leaking into the water, contaminating it and posing a risk to both human health and the environment. The use of pesticides in agriculture and other industries has led to an increase in harmful algal blooms. This can cause long-lasting damage to the entire ecosystem. It is essential that we take steps to reduce the use of pesticides and find safer alternatives to protect Lake Erie and our environment. Now were going to pass it to mallory who will give us more information.
