- The US wanted the British troops to stop attacking ships. France hoped to create a war. So John Jay made a treaty with Britain. So troops were pulled out of the Ohio Valley so they can stop attacking ships. Then, France started attacking US ships.
- Embargo Act
- Stop entering the US!!!
- Adams wanted to send three envoys to France to tell them to end attacks. But, later met by the secret agents known as the X,Y,Z. So, the agents had no peace talks unless they received a large tribute. Congress recruited an army and built new ships for the navy. Then launched a half war, after that, the navy captured more than 80 French vessels.
- Latin American Revolutions
- France and Britain were at was again and wanted to begin seizing US ships that were trading with their enemy. But, the British started to impress the American sailors. So, US ships forced pirates North of Africa. Then, Washington and Adams both payed tribute to the Barbary. Jefferson then had to almost pay $12 million.
- Monroe Doctrine
- Jefferson wanted France and Britain to stop entering the US. But, 55,000 sailors lost their jobs. So, the US said no foreign ships can enter or leave US ports. Then, the American ships returned to sea and French and British warships continued to attack the US.
- Latin America wanted independence from Spain. But, Spain wouldn't do it peacefully. So, Latin American countries revolted against Spain. Then, Latin America nations were liberated.
- Monroe wanted to support the new Latin American countries. But, Europe still wanted to control. So, Monroe gave the Monroe Doctrine. Then, Europeans were warned to respect the independence of Spain.
