- Siddhartha's father wanted him to become a great ruler and vowed to make life as pleasant as possible so Siddhartha would not want to leave the palace.He was isolated by his father, because a holy man had told him that he would either become a great king, a military leader, or a great spiritual leader.
- When Siddhartha visited India for the first time, he saw a patient, an ascetic, and a decomposed body. He was overcome by all these suffering emotions that he had never experienced before.
- Siddhartha decided to become an ascetic, and to practice his new ways with 5 others.
- The other ascetics left him but even if so, he encouraged others to follow a balanced path and avoid all acts of extremism. He called this path the Middle Way.
- When Buddha was born, he fought off a demon named Mara who was challenging his right to become Buddha. When he won, he saw a scene of all that happened in the universe, giving him his answers to suffering. He meditated under the Bodhi tree until he found the 4 Noble truths.
- His first followers were ascetics, but over time he gained followers of all race, wealth, and gender. When Buddha died, his followers decided that they would follow no leader. They passed down their knowledge to other monks who helped spread the word of his teachings.
