  • Scene 1: A Sad Family Sitting in the Kitchen
  • There's no food!
  • I'm hungry!
  • Scene 2: Social Justice Classroom
  • Are we ready to pack Christmas hampers?
  • Yes, let's go!
  • Scene 3: Christmas Cheer Board
  • "Yes we are ready!"
  • Hi Social Justice team, thank you all for volunteering to help pack hampers today.
  • We've got a lot to pack today. "Are you all ready?"
  • In this scene we have a family who lives in a trailer home sitting together in the kitchen. The poor children and parents are struggling with poverty. They don't have enough money to buy food to feed their whole family and they can't afford to live in a house. The fridge is completely empty and the plates have no food on them. This example illustrates conflict theory, it portrays a family who is struggling to gain access to certain resources like food. This family doesn't have the same opportunities as the rich. The richer and more wealthier families don't struggle with lack of food they always have the opportunity to select foods they enjoy.
  • Scene 4: Packing Hampers
  • Cookies
  • Orange Juice
  • Cereal
  • In this scene we have a social organization where the students of the Social Justice Committee come together and discuss their plan for packing Christmas hampers for the poor families living in poverty. The committee illustrates the concept social solidarity. The group of students are supporting one another, sharing the same goals and ideas and are working as a team towards their goal by discussing their plans to help make a poor family happy on Christmas Day. The teacher facilitates the meeting and arranges the events. The committee's plan is to help the needy by wrapping donated food items to give to them on Christmas.
  • Scene 5: Celebrating
  • The teachers and Social Justice group have arrived at the Christmas Cheer Board. The workers of a microstructure organization are very excited to have a wonderful group of people to help them prepare Christmas hampers this year. The workers ask the students and teachers, "are you ready to pack Christmas hampers?" the group shouts in excitement, "yes!" This illustration shows functionalism. The Social Justice group and workers all have a purpose in society and are both striving towards accomplishing a common goal. They're all working towards keeping the community together and balanced.
  • Scene 6: Christmas Day
  • This is the best Christmas ever!
  • Thank you Christmas Cheer Board and Social Justice team!
  • The students of the Social Justice team are divided into certain sections and are each given certain social roles they must follow. One student is in charge of packing the canned soups within the box, another student is in charge of packing cereal boxes, the others are responsible for packing orange juice, strawberry jam and cookies. The students who are putting each donated item into the box follow a set of norms. Norms are the acceptable and expected ways people behave in society. The students of the group review the expiration dates and verify items aren't damaged, prior to assembling them in the hampers.
  • Soups
  •
  • Strawberry Jam
  • The Social Justice team are celebrating. All the hampers are wrapped and ready to be delivered to families in need. The students and teachers take pride in their accomplishment and all their hard work in support of their community. The concept of functionalism and equality is being described here. The social Justice Committee and the Christmas Cheer Board organization worked together to accomplish a goal to help make the community more functional, balanced and equal by wrapping donated items to give to the poor, allowing them to enjoy a regular Christmas dinner.
  • Good job team!
  • Yes we did it!
  • Hooray!
  • On Christmas day, the poor family is surprised and delighted to receive the hamper filled with food donations. The family expresses their gratitude for the hamper to share with their family. They appreciate the Social Justice team and the Christmas Cheer Board for helping them to improve their lives and making their Christmas the best ever. Overall, we can see when different social organizations come together to accomplish a common goal; we achieve a society that runs smoothly and is more balanced.
  • We now have food to eat
