- We purchased the other half of America for 16 million dollars from the French. This doubled the size of The United States. This also opened up a lot of opportunities for Westward expansion.
- Jackson's Speech
- They journeyed 8,000 miles in the new land. They reported back that the land was a great beauty, variety of game, deer seemed plentiful, and abundance of wild raspberries.
- Indian removal Act
- Long traveled through the new land by steam boat. Long was a map maker. When he was discovering Kansas he named it the Great American Desert.
- THE GREAT AMERICAN DESERT
- Jackson's speech talked about how we should move the indians to Kansas. The Kansas land was too dry for the American people to move there so he wanted to make the Indians relocate there.
- The Americans forced the indians to relocate to Kansas. Many tribes struggled with the change of environment. This caused tension between the tribes.
