  • The Story Of The Digestive System
  • Hi! I'm a hotdog, and I'm going to take you on a tour of the digestive system today.
  • As you can see, I entered the mouth first. Before the delicious food ever reaches your mouth, your salivary glands begin pumping out saliva as you become aware of its approach. The saliva and food combine while you chew to form a soft food lump known as a bolus.
  • I then move on to the small intestine from there. The gallbladder receives bile from the liver and stores it till I get there. The residual fibre, water, and dead cells are absorbed by tiny protrusions called villi and transported to the large intestine.
  • The bolus then passes through the oesophagus, a long, narrow tube. Our next stop is the stomach, where the bolus is forced down by the oesophagus's strong walls.
  • When the bolus reaches the stomach, hormones instruct the stomach walls to release acid, which dissolves the food into a liquid known as chyme. The hormones also signal the pancreas, liver, and gallbladder to begin producing bile.
  • I am finally deposited in the large intestine. I'm kept in a tiny pouch until I exit the body through the anus, which marks the conclusion of my prolonged journey through the digestive system which took between 30 to 40 hours.
  • I then pass through the colon, which is the large intestine. Through the intestinal walls, the colon empties the majority of the fluid. The result is a mushy substance known as stool.
  • THE END
  • As you can see, I entered the mouth first. Before the delicious food ever reaches your mouth, your salivary glands begin pumping out saliva as you become aware of its approach. The saliva and food combine while you chew to form a soft food lump known as a bolus.
