- Things in Zan's life were changing. This was his first year of high school. He felt lonely and left out. One evening he was sitting near the fireplace, with his cat while doing some homework........
- .....When he noticed smoke coming out of the ceiling and fire everywhere! He and his mom rushed outside quickly.
- Zan and his mom sat in their car, dazed. Zan couldn't stop crying. He remembered his cat, his new school, his house, the fire.Zan was suffering loss, big time.
- His mother rushed inside to get some prized possessions but his cat was nowhere to be found.
- Zan and his mom arrived at his grandparents house since they couldn't go to their burnt down house again. Zan didn't want to go to school but his Mom wouldn't hear any of it and sent him to school.
- But Mom! I don't want to go to school!
- I don't want any arguments. You are going to school
- Now I'll be even more of an outcast
- Zan left for school but he neither had his shoes, nor his bag pack. He felt like an outcast. He'd lost everything of his that provided him a sense of security. It all felt surreal to Zan.
