- Oh No! What am I going to do.
- In the middle of breaking into a house and committing a burglary, William Henry Furman accidentally woke up the Owner of the house .When the man came downstairs, Furman tried to escape but in the process his gun accidentally went off and killed the owner .
- That is over the top I will not be given the death penalty !
- However, Furman disagreed with his death sentence. He thought that the death penalty counted as cruel and unusual punishment , which was forbidden by the eighth amendment . He also thought that since the nature of receiving the death penalty was very unreasonable and that he was a African- American man , he was being discriminated against
- Mr.Furman Don't blame anyone else for the crime. But I give a death penalty for the crime you committed
- Furman was charged with murder and was found guilty.Under Georgia law and felony murder rule since Furman committed the murder while committing another felony , he was eligible to receive a death sentence for his crime .

- I served my time and I learned my lesson. I realized how hard life is, I understand why death penalty was insisted for my actions because i took another human beings life and I apologies for my actions.
- United states holds that the death penalty breaches human rights, in particular the right to life and the right to live free from torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Both rights are protected under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the UN in 1948.
- The court holds that the imposition and carrying out of the death penalty in these cases constitute cruel and unusual punishment in violation of the eighth amendment and fourteenth amendments . The judgement in cases is therefore reversed in so far as it leaves undisturbed the death sentence imposed, and the are remanded for further proceedings
