- Hello there! I am Theo, a French soldier led by Samuel de Champlain, a navigator and soldier in the 17th century.
- Theo, pack your bags. We’re going to find and establish the first settlement for New France. Tell the others.
- Yes, sir!
- This looks perfect! We shall settle here.
- After sailing and searching high and wide, we arrive in an unfamiliar land, accompanied by the rest of our colony.
- But soon, we learn that we are not alone...
- We encounter a native tribe called the “Huron Indians”. After learning they are friendly, we strike up a contract with them. To have permission to occupy their land and discover even more land, we would aid them in destroying enemy tribes.
- Yes, sir!
- As time passes and more land is discovered, we successfully begin to establish our settlement.
- To honor our friendship with the Hurons, I have decided to name this fort ‘Quebec’ after the Algonquian word ‘kebec’.
- You should really move to Quebec! It’s a new land of opportunity for fur trading!
- At first, the process is rough. Few settlers are attracted to Fort Quebec.
- Why would I want to settle there? Life is already so good here! Besides, I’m a Huguenot. I was denied permission to settle there.
