- MLK quotes the Declaration of Independence in this quote. Him doing this points out the hypocrisy of the U.S. as he wishes one day all U.S. citizens will be able to live amongst each other without being discriminated against due to race, gender, nationality, or religion.

- PATHOS
- MLK uses his children to relate to his audience emotionally as not only are adults going through the discrimination at this time but their children are too and he recognizes that with this quote. He gains his audiences emotional connection as he also hints at how he will probably not be able to see his children living in this world he dreams of which is sad.

- LOGOS
- In MLK's speech, he uses logos by repeating, "100 years later," in order to convey how African Americans haven't been equal to whites discriminated against even after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by the President over 100 years ago.
