  • David Julius Born on Brighton Beach, Brooklyn (United States) on November 4, 1955
  • He graduated in biology in 1977 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
  • In 1984, he obtained a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Berkeley.
  • He is a professor at the University of California at San Francisco.
  • The discoveries of these researchers promoted a great deal of research that led to a deeper understanding of the cellular and molecular basis of the different sensations of how the nervous system perceives heat, cold, and mechanical stimuli
  • On October 4, 2021, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine together with Ardem Patapoutian for their discoveries of receptors for temperature and touch.
  • In 2000, he received the inaugural Perl-UNC Neuroscience Prize for his work on capsaicin receptor cloning.
  • During 2010, he won the Shaw Award for his work identifying the ion channels involved in various aspects of nociception.
  • Partner of Holly Ingraham, American physiologist of molecular physiology at the University of California in San Francisco. He is the father of Philip A. Julius.
