- Elya Yelnats fell in love with a young woman named Myra, but her father did not feel that she should marry him. He felt it was proper if she married Igor, a fifty-year-old man. Igor had a big fat pig, but Elya just had flowers. Madame Zeroni gave Elya a pig and told him to bring it to the top of the mountain and let it drink while he sand to the pig every day and the pig will be very fat. She asked if he will bring her to the mountain when he is done, and if he doesn't, all his descendants will be cursed with bad luck forever. He never kept his promise, and he moved to America, and never married Myra.
