- In this scene from The Outsiders, Ponyboy and Johnny ran away from Pony's home because Darry slapped Ponyboy. Johnny and Pony were walking to the park when a Blue Mustang pulled up and 5 socs got out. The socs grabbed Ponyboy and shoved his head under the fountain water and tried to drown him. The on page 56 the text stated, 'The next thing I knew I was lying on the pavement beside the fountain, coughing water and gasping.'
- When Ponyboy was laying but the fountain gasping for air frantically looking for Johnny to see him sitting on the fountain just staring, on page 56 the text stated 'Then I saw Johnny. He was sitting next to me, one elbow on his knee, and staring straight ahead. He was a strange greenish-white and his eyes were hunger than I'd ever seen them.' "I killed him,"' he said slowly.' "I killed that boy." If Johnny had not done that they would have killed Johnny and Ponyboy
- Johnny and Pony went to Dally's friends party to find Dally because they knew that he could get them out of everything. Dally gave then a loaded gun and a stack of cash and told them to get on the train station and go to Jay mountain and hide until he come to get them if it is safe.
