- In the beginning stages of language development, an infant will start to make sounds, such as cooing. To encourage more sounds and communication, parents can respond to the child by imitating the sounds they make.

- With practice and interactions with adults, toddlers will learn to turn those sounds into words. Parents should repeat the child and build complete sentences with the words their child says.
- "Do you want the toy car?"
- Children will learn to put words into short sentences that parents will be able to understand. Parents should respond and further the conversation with their child.
- Scene 3
- "Which shirt would you like to put on?"
- "Shirt on."
- As children continue to develop language skills, they will learn to put together more complex sentences. Parents can challenge the child by asking them to identify different things and ask questions about it.
- Scene 4
- "It is sitting by a tree!"
- "What is the cat doing?"
- A great way to help a child continue to strengthen their language skills is by reading them them. Parents can point to words as they read or ask the child to repeat the words on the page. This helps the child create an association between written and spoken words and create better sentences.
- Scene 5
- "The...girl... walked... the... dog."
- "The girl walked the dog. Can you say that?"
- When parents interact with their child and respond to their attempts to communicate, their child will learn more and more words and sentences. Interactions will allow their vocabulary to grow and they will communicate better.

- "Hey Mom, I am hungry."
- "What would you like me to make you?"
